In 1970 Richard Hetzel bought "stone boxes", a jeweler's
briefcase, a loupe and a new car to haul himself and his "goods"
from Oregon to New Mexico.  His smiling face, congenial
personality and good buys bought him good friends and
customers.

In 1971, Richard Hetzel created "Closeouts", a  catalog page of
manufactured stones surplus.

After Dick married and had a family, he decided to do business by
mail order catalog and phone.

In 1973,  the Richard Hetzel Company Catalog was created to
serve lapidary stores, Western jewelry stores,  repair stores,
jewelry designers, and antique dealers as a wholesale and dealer
vendor.  Richard Hetzel Company now stretches its arms out to
all of these and the individuals who craft their own jewelry pieces..
